Invisalign has transformed orthodontics over the past two decades. As a Diamond Apex Provider, Dr. Mittu Dixit at Ark Dental Global has treated 500+ Invisalign cases. Here's what actually happens — start to finish.
How Aligners Move Teeth
Each clear aligner is custom-manufactured to put gentle pressure on specific teeth, moving them 0.25mm at a time. You wear each aligner for 1-2 weeks, then progress to the next in the series. Over 20-60 aligners across 6-18 months, your teeth migrate to their final position.
The 5-Stage Process
Stage 1: iTero 3D Scan
No goopy impressions. A handheld scanner creates a precise 3D model of your teeth in 15 minutes.
Stage 2: ClinCheck Plan
Dr. Mittu designs your entire treatment digitally — you see a 3D animation of your teeth moving from start to finish. Approve the plan before manufacturing begins.
Stage 3: Aligners Manufactured
Your full set is custom-made in Costa Rica or Czech Republic at Align Technology facilities. Shipped to clinic in 2-3 weeks.
Stage 4: Wear & Progress
Wear each aligner 22 hours/day, change every 1-2 weeks. Check-ins every 6-8 weeks (in-person or video for international patients).
Stage 5: Retainers
After active treatment, you wear retainers nightly to keep teeth from drifting back. Forever — yes, lifetime retention is normal.
How Long Does It Really Take?
- Express (mild crowding/spacing): 3-6 months · ~15 aligners
- Lite: 6-9 months · ~25 aligners
- Comprehensive: 12-18 months · ~40-60 aligners
- Teen: 12-18 months with growth-compensation features
The Honest Caveats
Invisalign works for 90% of orthodontic cases — but not all. Severe bite issues, skeletal jaw problems, or rotated teeth beyond 60° sometimes need traditional braces or surgical adjuncts. We tell you honestly at consultation if Invisalign won't be ideal for your case.
