Root Canal Treatment in GK-1, South Delhi

Root canal treatment (RCT) saves an infected or badly decayed tooth by removing the inflamed pulp inside it, cleaning the canals and sealing them. At Ark Dental Global, R-27, Greater Kailash 1, root canals are done under local anaesthesia with rotary instruments and a Carl Zeiss surgical microscope, and most are completed in a single visit. Signs to Watch

Do you need a root canal?

You may need root canal treatment if the nerve inside a tooth is inflamed or infected. Common signs include:

Lasting toothache

Throbbing pain that keeps coming back, especially when chewing or lying down.

Lingering sensitivity

Sharp pain with hot or cold drinks that stays after the drink is gone.

Swollen gum or pimple

A swelling or small boil on the gum near the tooth, sometimes with a bad taste.

Darkening tooth

A tooth that turns grey or darker than its neighbours, often after an old injury.

Cracked or deep cavity

A deep cavity, large old filling or crack that has reached the nerve.

Pain that wakes you

Toothache at night or pain that painkillers barely touch.

Some infected teeth cause no pain at all and are found on an X-ray, which is why regular check-ups matter.

Step by Step

What happens during your root canal.

A typical single-visit root canal at Ark Dental Global.

  1. Examination and X-ray

We confirm the diagnosis with a clinical check and digital X-ray. Complex teeth are planned on a 3D CBCT scan.

  2. Local anaesthesia

The tooth and gum are numbed so the procedure feels like having a filling. Sedation is available for anxious patients.

  3. Cleaning the canals

Under a Carl Zeiss surgical microscope (up to 16× magnification), the infected pulp is removed and the canals are cleaned and shaped with rotary instruments.

  4. Measuring and disinfecting

An electronic apex locator measures each canal's exact length, and the canals are rinsed with disinfecting solutions.

  5. Filling and sealing

The canals are filled with a biocompatible material and the tooth is sealed to stop bacteria getting back in.

  6. Crown to protect the tooth

Back teeth usually get a crown to stop them cracking. Same-day CEREC crowns are possible, so you may leave with your final crown.

Aftercare

After your root canal.

First few hours

Wait until the numbness wears off (2–3 hours) before eating, so you don't bite your cheek.

Next 1–2 days

Mild tenderness is normal and settles with regular pain relief. Call us if swelling increases.

Until the crown

Avoid hard or sticky food on that side if a temporary filling is in place.

Long term

Brush twice daily, floss, and keep six-monthly check-ups so the tooth lasts.

Patient Questions

Root canal questions.

Is root canal treatment painful?

With modern local anaesthesia, root canal treatment usually feels similar to having a filling. At Ark Dental Global it is done with rotary instruments under Carl Zeiss surgical microscope magnification. Mild tenderness for a day or two afterwards is normal and settles with regular pain relief.

How many visits does a root canal take?

Most root canals at Ark Dental Global are completed in a single visit of about 60–90 minutes. A badly infected tooth, or one with an unusual canal shape, may need a second visit so the infection can settle first.

How much does root canal treatment cost in South Delhi?

The cost depends on the tooth: a front tooth has one canal and is quicker, while a molar has three or four canals and takes longer. A crown is usually recommended afterwards; crowns at Ark Dental Global cost ₹15,000–30,000 per tooth. You get an exact written quote after examination and an X-ray.

Do I need a crown after a root canal?

Usually yes for back teeth. A root-canal-treated molar or premolar is more brittle and can crack under chewing forces, so a crown protects it. Front teeth sometimes only need a filling. Same-day CEREC crowns are available at the clinic.

How long does a root canal last?

A well-sealed root canal with a good crown can last for many years, often for life. Regular check-ups, good brushing and flossing, and not using the tooth to bite hard objects help it last.

Is it better to remove the tooth and get an implant?

Saving your natural tooth with a root canal is usually the first choice when the tooth can be restored. If a tooth is cracked below the gum or too broken down to save, a dental implant is the alternative; implants at Ark Dental Global start from ₹35,000 with crown.

Can I eat after a root canal?

You can eat once the numbness wears off, usually after 2–3 hours. Until the final crown is fitted, avoid biting hard or sticky food on the treated side.

Do children get root canals?

Yes. Infected baby teeth can often be saved with a pulpotomy (a simplified 'baby root canal') followed by a small crown, which keeps space for the permanent tooth. See our paediatric dentistry page for details.

I have severe toothache now. Can I be seen today?

Same-day emergency appointments are available during clinic hours (Monday–Saturday, 10am–8pm) for severe toothache, swelling or a broken tooth. Call or WhatsApp +91 99905 09300.
